Solo/Ensemble Information and Permission Slip

December 16, 2009

Dear Parents,

Attached is a permission slip that is due on Tuesday, January 5, for your child to participate in solo/ensemble contest. I have given them to the students in class, but I thought you might like a copy.

The contest is Saturday, February 20th and I do need these permission slips to consider enrolling your children. All the soloists have their music and soloists will be required to "sing off" their song to show that they are working on it when we get back in January. Mrs. Nott is coming this Friday to help students learn their pieces. Also, students who just want to be in ensembles need to understand that I do consider classroom effort and lesson attendance in when I select students for ensembles.

Parents,

There will be a switch in rehearsals this week as Mr. Mattsey will be at a conference. We will have full choir on Wednesday and band on Thursday. So, the band choir students will switch Wednesday and Thursday this week.

Dear Parents and Students,

  1. Reminder: Billy Elliot trip mney is due tomorrow (Tuesday, December 15). I have attached the information along with the permission slips. Also, trip discounts are listed on the choir website on the Downloads page under "Choir trip".
  2. Lessons this week are for those students who need help selecting a vocal solo for contest. There is a sign-up sheet in the choir room for lesson times.
  3. Concert Choir Auditions are Wednesday, December 16 from 4:00-7:30 pm in the choir room. I have attached the informational letter. Additional copies of the letter along with a sign-up sheet is available on the choir room door.

Billy Elliot Trip and Poinsettia Discounts

Attached (see "Choir Trip" section of Downloads page) are two items that might help you. Tomorrow (Tuesday, December 15th) is the turn in for Billy Elliot trip tickets. Attached are the discounts for the trip and the permission slip. Big thanks to Sheryl Hansen for tabulating the discounts!

I am in need of one more parent who would be willing to sit in the back of the auditorium and help monitor behavior of the choir students during the concert (i.e., talking, cell phone use, etc.). I don't anticipate there to be problems, but it is just nice to have someone there just in case. J

Choir Update

Dear Parents and Students,

  • HS Choir Concert and Call Times – Concert is this Wednesday, Dec. 9th at 7:00 pm Below are the student call times.

    • Warm-Up in Choir Room

    6:00 pm ALL CHOIR MEMBERS 9-12 GRADE
    (at this time, get robes/stoles, ties, pearls, etc)

    Pictures in the Auditorium

    • 6:20 pm – Concert Choir
    • 6:25 pm – Mixed Chorus
    • 6:30 pm – Madrigal Singers, Jazz Voices, Men's Ensemble

    Part of your performance grade is based on your attendance at warm-ups and arriving on time. Concert grade is worth 200 points.

  • Parent "Chaperones" during concert – I am in need of two parents who would be willing to sit in the back of the auditorium with the students during the concert and help monitor behavior (talking, cell phone use, etc). Please let me know if you are willing to help out. J
  • Special thanks to those parents who helped with the Poinsettia fundraiser! We appreciate your time and support!
  • Lessons this week are a continuation of last week's lessons. Students are responsible for coming to one lesson, either last week or this week. A schedule is posted in the choir room.
  • The EAST program is hosting a Christmas around the world themed presentation the night of our concert (Wednesday, Dec 9th). They are putting together different booths about different Eastern countries. Each booth will be presenting a different country. There will be samples of what those countries do at Christmas time and food and the participants will be dressed in traditional wear. It will be in the commons from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm and is free to the public.

Choir Chaperones and Billy Elliot reminds

December 3, 2009

Dear Parents,

Again, I am requesting a few able bodies to sit amongst the choir students at the concert to maintain discipline. Also, if you could help Mr. Hartmann arrange them on stage for the picture, that would be great.

I need one parent for sixth grade (because Mrs. Butcher will be there), two or three parents each for seventh and eighth grade. If you could help, please email me back. I ask that you are in place a few minutes prior to their call time, take attendance, and make sure that they are being good. If they talk or our disruptive, warn them, if they continue, please write down their names. Any major problems (which there seldom are) should be directed to an administrator.

Here are the call times in case in case you need a reminder:

Thursday, December 10th Concert Night

  • 6:25 pm – Swing Choir on Stage for a picture

  • 6:30 pm – Eighth Grade Chorus in Seats ready to line up

  • 6:35 pm – Eighth Grade Chorus on stage for picture
    Seventh grade chorus in seats in auditorium.

  • 6:40 pm – Seventh Grade Chorus on stage Picture
    Sixth Grade Chorus on Stage for Concert

Rehearsal Change Next Week

December 1, 2009

Dear Choir and Band Parents,

Next week in preparation for our concert, we will have FULL CHOIR three days next week. We will have full choir on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday next week (December 7th, 8th and 10th). Students in band will have full band on Wednesday and Friday of next week. Students in choir only will have the same schedule (choir Monday – Friday).
